SCHULICH--Mitchell B., 88 years old, on March 29, 2014. A graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School, Mitch volunteered for the U.S. Army Air Force, became a radio operator in a B-29 assigned to the 330 Bomb Group, 20th Air Force. Based on North Field, Guam, he flew 22 missions over Japan for which he was awarded the Air Medal with Two Bronze Stars (Oak Leaf Clusters). Honorably discharged in 1946, Mitch returned to college, received his B.A. and M.A. degrees, became a pharmacist and in time, a teacher of chemistry and physics at Seward Park High School in lower Manhattan. He ended his teaching career as Principal of Curtis High School on Staten Island, which he retired from in 1991. A dedicated, innovative and hardworking teacher and administrator, a wonderful friend, he was a man of many interests and strong opinions who always believed that education was an indispensible part of the path that led to a more truthful, just, and caring society.
