Seward Class of 1940 and a graduate of Columbia Law School.  Judge Shainswit led a distinguished law career – a legal pioneer championing women’s rights and education.  She authored the NYC Rent Law and Regulations and worked with NY City Council President Frank D. O’Connor.  She first served in NYC Civil Court in 1971.  From 1973-1999, she was a Justice on the New York State Supreme Court.  The Honorable Beatrice Shainswit passed away on April 29, 2023 at age 98.  View her obituary on www.Legacy.com.
